Avant Garde Bloggie awards aim to recognise the best posts from your blog. It is an award competition where your entries are voted and judged by fellow, expert bloggers. It is a competition to recognise your blog. Its meant to be fun and healthy.

Here is how the award winners are decided:

Phase 1: Nominations

The invitations for nominations close on 20 December at 10 pm IST.

Phase 2: Judgement by a panel of judges

The panel of judges will comprise of bloggers. There are two separate judges for each category. Together they will select 6 best posts in each category. These 6 posts will go for polls in Phase 3.

Phase 3: Polling

You, my readers, will poll for your favorite post in each category. Polls for each category will be created at Avant Garde Bloggies Awards.

Phase 4: Judgement day

Final decision of the awards will be announced on 15 January 15 March, 2010.

Please feel free to ask any questions. I want to keep this decision process transparent and smooth. You question may also point out a fact/situation I may have overlooked.

How to nominate blog posts?

You can nominate your own posts and blog posts written by others. Who knows your best work in the blog other than you. I recommend that you start by nominating your own posts and then nominate posts of your friends.

You can find rules of nominations and award categories here.

Please write in your nominations in the comments section. Please mention the award category along with the name of the writer and link to the blog post. In case any of these vital information is missing, nomination will be rejected.

Volunteers who are making it possible

Nikhil is officially working as a publicist for the Avant Garde Bloggies awards 2009.Β  Volunteers are invited. Judges’ panel will be announced soon.

What can you do?

I would appreciate if you too could spread the word to have worthy nominations pouring in for each category.

Note: All the blog awards winners for 2008 were announced on 11 December, 2008, here at Visceral Observations. You can see the list of winners for Avant Garde Bloggies 2008 here: Click to view the list of winners.

    Hi Poonam

    I am confused. and I am sure a lot of people are.

    I have an idea… Why dont you pick up say top 5 nominations chosen by the judges and have people select the best amongst them. That will make the voters work also easier…

    What do you think?

  2. 2 Poonam Sharma September 29, 2008 at 2:24 pm

    @Nova: Don’t be confused girl! You are the one, as a writer, who knows your blog best. So nomination should come from the blogger. There are thousands of blog posts there, how can any other person find a best work there. Readers can nominate the posts because they read and know that a particular post made an impact on them, so that says you can nominate blog osts written by other that you liked.

    Once nominations are decided, I will put a poll on the blog. So voting will be easier for teh readers. Judges also step in when nominations are decided.

    Nomination is the just recognition phase. It has to start with write(self-recognition) and the reader(appreciations). Judgement comes later. Did I make things any clearer now? Tell me, or I will write a new post.

    P.S: I have few nominations in mind for some categories, I will publish them.

  3. 3 Anshul September 29, 2008 at 2:38 pm

    @Nova: There is nothing to be confused about, all you have to do is nominate your own post and then just threaten the judges, so that they give you the award. Thats it, simple.

  4. 5 Poonam Sharma September 29, 2008 at 2:49 pm

    @Dinu: Nomination noted. That was our first official nomination.

    Thanks Devki for nominating me!
    Amit, please send in your nomination on the post about homosexuals. I nominate that post on your behalf in the public interest category. Can’t think of another category but I think there should be a category for social issues. this is one of your best posts Amit.
    I am still confused whether I am participating or not! That’s typical of me I guess! πŸ™‚
    Anyway, for me it’s simple. Either I participate fully (Being able to nominate my posts in any category I wish) or I simply remain on the judges panel like Poonam and do not participate. In any case, I think Poonam should participate.
    Now all this sounds confusing huh!

    @Nita, Amit, Devki: Nominations noted and listed! Let me know if I have missed any.

    @Nita: Before you started anything professional, your blog has given us best content. I would appreciate if you are part of the awards. THe competition would lose some lustre without your presence.

    If I participate, Avant Garde awards may lose crediblity. Though I am missing it, I will participate in someone else’s. πŸ™‚

    @Nick, Dinesh Babu: Nominations updated!

    @Chirax: Nominations noted! Yes, I wanted to ask you to create logo, but never had access to Internet and time to let you know that I wnated one. Some peopel did make one for me, nothing that made me happy. Thanks for the offer1 πŸ™‚

    @Smita: Nominations noted!

    @Balu: All of them were good nominations! Noted. Where are nominations from your own blog? This post by Ishmeet explains well the reason for self-nominations: http://ishmeet.wordpress.com/2008/10/06/avant-garde-bloggies-awards-some-clarifications/#comment-27985

    @Dinesh Babu: I am a regular reader of Twisted DNA, ever since I discovered his blog. Its fun, good to see nominations from this blog. I have updated almost all nominations from you. If I have missed any, please let me know.

    I would not be able to add one more category, but you can certainly recategorise these anecdotal nominations. Also, do not enter same post in multiple entries as I will get back to blogger to put their same post only in one category.

    @Vinayak: Welcome here! Eentually before polls, I will ask bloggers to selct their best two posts. Why? Because, as you can see, nominations are overflowing. We will open only 6 best posts fro poll. No reader can be motivated to read more than 6 posts in a category.

  45. 64 Poonam Sharma October 9, 2008 at 2:56 pm

    @Kaddu: Nomination noted!

    @Chirax: Nomination noted! I have not included astro gyan as eventually we are going to ask blogger to put his/her best post in a single category and ot multiple posts. There could be exceptions but in this case astro gyan 2 is aprt of next series, so they can be counted together as single entry.

    @Anshul: All three nominations noted!

    @Rupa: I understand what you mean. Would keeping a best progessional blog category help your cause?

    @Dinesh Babu, Mith: Nominations accepted!

    @Manofroma: Nominations accepted! As for Ashish’s republished post, I would ask my scrutinising team to decide. About Me nomination is fine!

    @DestinationInfinity: Nominations listed!

    @Paul: I included Playboy post in howto category, without reading. (My work firewall would not let me open that page). We are going to ask bloggers to put their best enntry in a category instead of putting multiple posts in a category.

    @Nimmy: I have listed all that could be easily categorised. Other I couldn’t think where to place. Why don’t you take help from my scrutinising team? I will email you about it. Please bear with me till then.

    @Amyth: Your entries are fantastic but they are not published between 1st jan-14 Oct, 2008, which is part of the rule. Please send e your nomination for your 2008 posts.

    @Dev, Nik, Mist: Nominations noted and listed!

    @Jottingsnmusings: Nominations noted, I will update them today. remind me if it is not done by today.

    Waiting for answer, thanks.

      Hey Abhishek,

      While sorting through nominations, noted that you have provided me with 3 nominations in the best humorous post category. However, as per rules, multiple entries by same author in a category is not allowed. 😦

      Could you please let me know which post (give me a single link) would you like me to nominate for best humorous category? Please reply as soon as you can.

      Regards, Poonam
