I am an Indian blogger, interested in anything related to art or creativity. Complete movie buff. Voracious reader. Loves watching plays.

Life is a soul-searching journey for me, everyday I learn something new about myself. I am completely unpredictable girl. I can easily come across as a paradox as I am more of an intuitive person rather than being extremely rational.

Open communication and freedom of expression is very important to me. I love to talk about anything and everythingβ€”love, space, stars, flowers, finance, sex, drama. You name it, and I can get you involved in a heated discussion over it.

Through this blog, I discovered the activist in me. This blog is also a feeble attempt to pen few of the thousand thoughts that come to my mind everyday.

I manage two other team blogs Its A Free World, a blog dedicated to write about various social issues and unsung heroes and Being a Blogger, a blog dedicated to interviewing both newbie and professional bloggers. I also contribute to Jai Hind Proud to be Indian.

There is nothing in this world that can bog my spirit down for long. I come back renewed to exorcise all the ghosts. Beware! πŸ™‚

Update: You can now read 8 random facts about me here. πŸ™‚

uhmm you could write this much about you…. cool πŸ™‚ I liked it.. you can include a lil about your education and what u do now etc.. I am curious coz i liked your articles here.. I will be back πŸ˜‰

  2. 2 Poonam Sharma September 18, 2007 at 4:28 pm

Hey Dinsan, glad you liked it πŸ™‚

I did not include my education and work deliberately…thought writing candidly without the baggage of my qualifications…somehow liked the idea of making my identity only out of my views, my words…so did not deliberately put up any picture, just an eye..eye of a strong lady…That’s Modesty (Blase), pun was completely unintended πŸ˜›

It will be good to have you back. πŸ™‚

Hi Poonam. Came here from the comment you left on my blog. Hullo to you. πŸ™‚
    When you said:
//Despite my love for communication, I am an immensely private person. //
I understood instantly. I am the same. I love people but there are things which I can share only with a few people who are very close to me.
btw, I am a movie buff too. πŸ™‚
You have a nice blog going…keep writing!!

Poonam: Hey Nita.. I figured from your movie posts that you are a movie buff as well. Glad that you liked my blog..but yet it is not in same league as your in terms on number of subjects handled and readership. I have to yet to get there. πŸ™‚

    When you said:
//Despite my love for communication, I am an immensely private person. //
    I understood instantly.

And if we are the same, we should catch up sometime. What do ya say? πŸ™‚

Poonam: Hey, thanks for dropping by..glad you liked it. πŸ™‚ Your blog is nice too, there were some posts I would have written myself if I were writing full-time.

  12. 12 Sathish October 19, 2007 at 11:41 am

Is it not we who should say that u r so unpredictable? πŸ˜‰

Poonam: Well, I have been myself since day 1, and I don’t know what I will do next…If I cant predict me, others can’t..also, that’s one of the few sure things I can tell you about me. πŸ™‚

  13. 13 Sathish October 20, 2007 at 6:27 am

    Still… πŸ™‚ it is ur perception… and we should… πŸ™‚

  14. 14 manofroma October 23, 2007 at 3:36 pm

Dear Poonam, you wrote in this “about” page:

    – anything related to art or creativity interests me….
    – I love to be surrounded by friends but remain a loner at heart…
    – This blog is also an attempt to pen few of the thousand thoughts that come to my mind everyday…

There are similarities, really. Only time impeded me to follow your blog closer. I will, in the future. You are now on my favourite-blogs list now.

By the way, thank you for that beautiful comment on that guy who burned himself. The picture was horrible and so sad. Your message instead beautiful.

Poonam: Manofroma, Thanks for telling we have similarities πŸ™‚ but you certainly flatter me when you praise so much about my comment in your blog. πŸ™‚ It was your impassioned writing that compelled me to comment and write about that unfortunate guy called Rajeev Goswami.

Me too have not been able to follow your blog meticulously because of time constraint (how I hate this phrase), but when I see your comments in my friend’s blog, I visit your blog. πŸ™‚

  15. 15 manofroma October 24, 2007 at 11:32 pm

Ok, if I flattered you, you flattered me back. I’m trying to understand you all Indian guys. It is such a new interesting world to me …
All my best regards Lady Poonam

Poonam: I can identify when you say ” I’m trying to understand you all Indian guys.” I too was trying to understand guy from Rome. πŸ™‚ Thanks for your best regards, wish you too my best! πŸ™‚

  16. 16 Nova October 25, 2007 at 2:31 am

Arre Poonam kahan gayab ho gayin!? No posts from a long time… Busy ho gayi kya????

Thought, we could include things like “road to a better world” or a “a small step towards freedom”

words like freedom have a very broad meaning, so they would kind of encompass all that we talk about…

what say? U got any ideas? post them on my blog… Cant access gmail for now…

  17. 17 Nova October 25, 2007 at 9:03 am

I was thinking if we make the name too big, it will be difficult for people to remember it… something like journeytowardsfreedom.w***** would get quite big.

If we try to find a word thats small but convys the meaning, it will have to be some esoteric word, which the junta may not be able to remember…

so, a word thats small and effective – anything cropping in ur mind?

  18. 18 Nova October 25, 2007 at 9:05 am

I thought aazadi would be a good name. but thats already taken 😦

  19. 19 Nova October 25, 2007 at 10:00 am

Hey, after all we are doing all this, because of this one ray of hope in us, that says that things will change for the good. How does the name ummeed sound?

Or u could suggest something similar

  20. 20 Nova October 25, 2007 at 10:58 am

ok… so something croppin up ur mind?

  21. 21 Ashish October 25, 2007 at 11:47 am

LOL. This looks so weird, it seems as if Nova is talking with herself!

Poonam: Ashish, Actually I communicate back to Nova on her blog. πŸ™‚ as she is not available on chat.

  22. 22 Sanjiv Kaura October 30, 2007 at 3:19 am

Just a small correction, Ma’am, about my LEAD INDIA profile you mention in your blog : I am not ex- army; just a late entrant into the part time Territorial Army! Today when I return home wearing the army uniform, I am greeted by one of the finest salutes that I could have hoped for. My son stands proudly at the door and salutes me while saying β€œJai Hind”. I return the salute feeling extremely fulfilled and peaceful. Jai Hind.

Earlier I was a MNC CEO overseas and returned to India in 1998. Discovered India on a bicylce by cycling from Kalka to Kanyakumari, styaing in villages. Also had the privilege to lead a nationwide grassroots movement on education (NAFRE) across 26,5000 villages in India.

    Regards, Sanjiv

: Hi Sanjiv, Thanks for dropping by and pointing out the corrections. I have made the corrections. Thank you for providing more info about yourself. πŸ™‚ (About the info gap, blame TOI coverage of finalists. I was actually unsure about the army thing, but TOI did mention that episode of your friends filling the form.)

And yes that salute from your son is perhaps the best salute you could get. I have voted for you when there were 3 finalists from Delhi. Keep the good work going, wish you luck for your win! πŸ™‚

Hey, would you like to share a word about your dream project? All I know it is about education. But have no clear cut idea.

  23. 23 Minal October 30, 2007 at 11:29 am

    Hey poonam,
learnt about your blog through nova.
Interesting to say the least. But as dinsan said in the first comment it would be nice if we could get a pic of you or at least know something abt where on earth you manage to work with these many paradoxes fitted in yourself.
Anyways nice introduction. Guess i’ll have to work on mine πŸ˜›

Poonam: Hi, Minal..welcome to Visceral Observations! πŸ™‚ Gald you found the blog interesting. The reason why there is no picture of mine or any personal details in the about me section is because I wanted only my writing and my thoughts to be my identity on Web. If you guys are left wanting for more, there is some gap. And I need to fix it. πŸ˜›

I saw your blog, it is self-hosted. The template looks nice. You must have a good knowledge of back-end stuff to dare to self-host. I want to but I am not confident if a novice like me can pull it off.

  24. 24 Sakib Al Mahmud November 1, 2007 at 5:15 am

dear, really nice blog and keep rock on πŸ˜›

Poonam: Hey Sakib, Welcome to Visceral Observations! If you like it, keep visiting. πŸ™‚

Btw, I saw your blog and read your wish to visit India. Inshallah, it will happen. πŸ™‚ But what does the “Allhamdulliah” mean?

  25. 25 Nishu November 4, 2007 at 8:36 am

its interesting to see that your about page is one of your top pages with about 25 comments .. πŸ˜€

  26. 26 manofroma November 7, 2007 at 10:24 am

    >I too was trying to understand guy from Rome

Well, though I think you Indians have an easier task trying to understand Romans because of the special connection to the West you have thru Victorians. This connection I do not think works two-ways, being India much beyond Victorians being way more ancient

Pls excuse me and pls be my ambassador with all sweet Indians:
my recent comments to their blog (Ish, you, Nova etc. ) were crazy and maybe abusing. Hard moment. Ghosts of mind are about to attack.

May I propose either to delete ALL ManofRoma comments for the next 30 days, or to just *cut* them mercilessly?

Me of course preferring the second option lol
    I salute you
    and all India with you

: Manofroma, relax! I did not find any of your comment abusive or crazy. Take care, keep well!

  27. 27 axinia November 16, 2007 at 3:02 pm

Hi, thanks for your lovely and profound comment on my blgo πŸ™‚

And congratulations to your blog – it is just wonderful, hats off!

: Hey, I am glad you did not complain about my comment. And thank you for your appreciation for my blog. I am glad, keep coming. πŸ™‚

  28. 30 Harsha November 19, 2007 at 3:41 pm

    hi poonam..

    Nice blog.. keep writing

  29. 31 indisch November 21, 2007 at 8:34 am

Hey, nice blog… And that thing u’ve written about urself … love to have a conversation on any topic … interests me. I’d love to have a conversation similar to the one Julie Delphy and Ethan Hawke have in the movies Before Sunrise/Sunset.
    And keep writing… πŸ˜‰

Poonam: If you liked it, then visit it more often! πŸ™‚
As for this movie, I have not watched it. If you recommend, can watch it sometime. I am movie buff, remember. But I can surely talk about Ethan Hawke πŸ˜›

  30. 32 shuz January 7, 2008 at 7:59 pm

    thts a very nice intro:)
i tried watching foreign movies….. long time back, but gave up….its now its mostly bollywood masala for me…. and yes, theatre is something that interests me as well…

    see ya:)

Poonam: Hey, thanks but your intro in alphabets is also unique and interesting. I saw it long time back and yet remember it. πŸ™‚

Why gave up watching foreign movies. I have not given up, but difficult to get foreign movies these days and less of time to visit film festivals. But yes do try to make it to theatre. Which city are you in? Delhi has a pretty decent theater scene. What about your city?

  31. 33 shuz January 21, 2008 at 11:53 am

    thank u:)
i live in Bangalore…. iv never really tried getting foreign movies. most of wt iv seen was during college…. though i know there r few film festivals… will make it a point to visit next time:)
and in theatre….. we have pretty good plays put up by good groups…. its probably a better way to relax on weekends:)

are u a part of any group?

  32. 34 Poonam Sharma January 22, 2008 at 7:20 am

yes, do write when you attend a film fest. That is stuff that hooks this country of cinephiles.

I am part of only watching group πŸ˜› that too I have to bully my friends to come along. I introduced most people in my circle to plays rather than it being other way round.

  33. 35 bibomedia February 27, 2008 at 10:13 am

    Have a nice day !

Poonam: Well, thanks! You too have a nice day!

  34. 36 crazypinkvanilla March 12, 2008 at 7:09 pm

Hey I really enjoy your site… I love books and try to read a lot of them… I am afraid that I am a “Movie alcoholic” so I try to balance the two… to me a book is way more intriguing then a movie any-day (given on what book it is tho’) Well Poonman you have a extra wonderful spring day and I look forward to more of your writings πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ And I am sure that if you are this interesting I will for sure watch a movie that you have directed when you get to that point in your life. anything is for sure possible! ~Me

  35. 37 Poonam Sharma March 13, 2008 at 7:52 am

@crazypinkvanilla: Hey, after a long while I have heard such infectious compliments.

I am same book alcoholic and movie-alcoholic. I love theater as well I try to balance too.

You have given such a warm wish for my day, I am sure I will have a nice day. I look forward to hear your views on my writings. Do you have a blog? I would love to read yours.

And movie, I hope that dream comes true. πŸ™‚

  36. 38 Nita March 16, 2008 at 4:59 pm

    I’ve tagged you…

  37. 39 chandrashekhar March 17, 2008 at 7:39 am

It was a nice experience to go through the page “about me”. If you take time to visit my site(this one is purely engaged in helping the needy, including students. Out of my own experience in the field of education through one-to-one counselling, in both, educational as well as career, I found that it is very much required to serve the people)I hope that if I publish some of your writings in my site, with your permission in the interest of service, my visitors also get benefitted. Anyway, let me know response in this regard.
    Keep it up! Good luck..

Poonam: Chandrashekhar, thanks for dropping by. I visited your Web site, it deals with various topics. You seem to have quite a repository there. I have hardly written any articles on education, though I plan to in future. Thank you for your interest. πŸ™‚ Keep dropping by!

  38. 40 Jay March 29, 2008 at 7:30 am

    Hey Poonam and others,

Why addressed Poonam is i got to read about you and your comments and the blogs by visiting “Jai Hind” and in to Poonam’s blog. Believe me i was just trying to read the “real stuff” in the blogs and was not able to lay my hand on one. This is really good one. Thank you Poonam and all others. Hope to see more and more of meaningful things being talked and may be the desired change could be seen one day. Lets hope for the best.

    Jai Hind.

Poonam: Jay, glad to hear your compliments. The Jai Hind blog is not solely written by me but some more great guys who write more regularly than me. πŸ™‚ I hope I am able to make more meaningful posts in future.

  39. 41 Falcon April 15, 2008 at 4:45 pm

It has been a long time since you put u a post on this blog and much longer since you posted on Jai Hind…
    Looking forward to your posts

Poonam: Here are some posts, soon will go to Jai Hind blog with a worthy post.

  40. 42 Tara Prasad April 30, 2008 at 7:23 am

Well… You know so much about yourself πŸ™‚

Poonam: If I would not know about me, who would? πŸ˜›

Pretty interesting blog you’ve got here!! I like it… I shall be a regular now!! πŸ™‚

Poonam: Hey yaake! thanks for visiting. You have a nice blog yourself. Look forward to read your comments here. πŸ™‚

  42. 44 Shefaly May 7, 2008 at 10:40 am

Poonam: I have a question about your avatar. Is it Bela’s face (as in Bahadur and Bela)? Thanks.

The other day I found the avatar of a blogger which was a character from a comic I read when I was a child. I had forgotten her name but the blogger graciously reminded me of Aunt Fritzi. πŸ™‚

Poonam: Shefaly, my avatar has eyes of Modesty. Modesty of Modesty Blase. πŸ™‚ Your guess for Bela can be given fair consideration as both women (Bela and Modesty) excel in Martial Arts.

Poonam, I was researching on disabled people in India and remembered you had written a post on it. I came here but realised you didn’t have a search function installed and thus couldn’t find it. Can you provide the link please?

Sure, emailed you! πŸ™‚ I have added search too. It got lost while changing theme. It seems.

  46. 48 Nita July 21, 2008 at 10:20 pm

p.s. I was reading my earlier comment on the blog…a year has passed (almost) but looks like we haven’t met! πŸ™‚ A few weeks ago I had suggested to a few people in our blogging community that we arrange some sort of meet. It was priyank who suggested it actually. do you come to mumbai Poonam? If you do, lets organize a blogging meet.

I would love to meet you, Nita. I do visit Mumbai annually to visit my relatives. Perhaps this time year end. I will surely write to you then.

  50. 52 Asif August 17, 2008 at 1:47 pm

    Nice Blog,
Why dont you write a Blog Post about Few Good Foriegn Movies.
SO that few more people could enjoy watching their TV Screens and Reading Subtitles at the Same time πŸ™‚

I do plan to do that sometime, only I lose focus and am lazy to write about. Thanks for reminding me though!

Ok, dearie, you tell me which theme is more Visceral Observations-like. I like the theme Xylene has on currently but didn’t use it as he is using it. πŸ˜‰

The first thing that struck me about this page was – I have a similar category called I, me and myself πŸ™‚ Nice blog. I like.

Thank you, Rinchen. I visited your blog. I noted that you were as regular as me while watching Roadies. Roadies 5.0 had 3 lamest finalists. 😦

  58. 60 i m ....ANONYMOUS November 12, 2008 at 10:28 am

    Hello to the lady,

i really liked the theme, a place where one has to express what he really feels……i m not a blog buff, but now i think soon i m gonna be……not very used to all this, so needs time to know how to put my views n feelings here, i hope it wont take long.

  59. 61 Poonam Sharma November 18, 2008 at 4:17 pm

@Anonymous: Why remain annonymous while writing such nice comments! I am glad you liked the blog, do visit again. πŸ™‚

And blogging and commenting are certainly not rocket science, you will soon find your way. You know where to ping if you need help. πŸ™‚

  60. 62 manushi November 20, 2008 at 5:20 pm

LOVED UR BLOG POONAM..u inspire me..to keep on writing!!..added you to my blogroll…as i want to keep cmin back!

Hey Manushi, its great to know that I could inspire someone to blog. I visited your blog, and the best thing I can tell you to write a greta blog is to keep on blogging, something even I fail to keep up sometimes. But blog with heart, as most as you can. πŸ™‚

  61. 63 Lucky January 5, 2009 at 3:19 pm

  63. 65 HELLO January 21, 2009 at 11:34 am

i like to talk with u
    in yahoo
    if u dont mine

That’s one unusual request, but one that will turned down. I blog here to communicate on the subjects that interest the like-minded.

  64. 66 Vikas Gupta January 24, 2009 at 9:02 pm

I ran into your blog some months ago! It was about time, I left my fingerprints here.

    Great blog! Cheers!

Hi Vikas, Welcome! It felt good to read your comment. You, too have a nice blog, I would soon leave my footprints (fingerprints kind of sound guilty πŸ˜› ) there.

  65. 67 Vikas Gupta January 28, 2009 at 3:26 pm

Yes! ‘Fingerprints’ is absolutely incongruous here! I am surprised why it did not occur to me! I am correcting it on my blog too. Thanks for reminding. Feel free to remind me in future too because I love the English language.

Saw your ‘footprints’ on my blog! My RTI: how-to is becoming really popular. Besides, appreciation from a blog guru like you means a lot.

It is about time, I added adding you in my blogroll (not in hope of a reciprocal action from you; besides I am a ‘slow blogger’ thanks to lack of time!).

    Thanks once again!

I understand what you said about blogrolling, I too am lazy when it comes to updating my blog. I have linked to your RTI post as promised. It’s good. And thanks for blogrolling! πŸ™‚

  66. 68 amreekandesi March 5, 2009 at 6:15 pm

I am on your blogroll! yay πŸ™‚

πŸ™‚ Had I not been lazy, you would have been here long back!

  67. 69 vaibhavtiwari March 14, 2009 at 7:11 am

I associated more to you than I would’ve to a fellow blogger because you talk of one phobia above. I suffer from one phobia myself, another one though. Is called Arachibutyrophobia.http://vaibhavtiwari.wordpress.com/2009/03/08/may-contain-peanuts/

You seem to be headlong into the ocean of blogging, which is good. I too do a little; have just started, but only for a new way of satiating my writing desire. Did not know there are award competitions and all that.

    good wishes,
