Avant Garde Bloggies Awards Update

As you know, the judgment phase is going on. Delayed as the first phase.

Except for few categories, 6 best posts for all categories have been decided. For these some categories, two revered judges Anshul and Nikhil are still to revert with results. These two bloggers have unfortunately been too busy with their travels and work. Between them, these categories remain to be judged: Best humorous, Best Satirical, Best How to, Best Book Review, Best 55er and Best Interesting Personal Rant.

What happens after judges score arrive?

After ALL judges decide the 6 best posts in a category, these 6 best posts will go for poll. Polls for each category will last only for a week. Now my question to you readers is: Would you like me to start polls for the categories I already have received the judgement for? That is, staggered polls in batches.Β  Or should I wait for all results to arrive (in aforementioned categories that are being judged by Anshul and Nikhil) before starting polls?

One of the judges for movie review category Meetu has some prize in mind for the winners in this category. Also, the winner gets to post a movie review at her Web site WOGMA,Β  which is a popular movie review site. Yay!

Also, there has been a suggestion that we can hold a closing ceremony for Avant Garde in Pune for all runner ups, winners, volunteers and judges . Though I have so far been reluctant to host any prizes or ceremony, since idea was just to laud the best of those who participate. Also, having a party in Pune means several winners/runner-ups residing in other cities would not be able to make it. So what do you say, should we have any party as such or not? Your thoughts? Please write in the comments section.

Before I sign off, a big THANK YOU to all the wonderful judges: Meetu (first one to send her scores and generously offered to do more), Muse (who has time and again stood by me irrespective of my sporadic communication), Rashmi (Worked late to send me scores before she took her vacation, she also started a new blog here), Withering Willow (Ditto, worked late alongside her hectic job), Nita (Sent me her scores even though it conflicted with her professional projects, I was after all delayed in compiling first cut list), Magik (who also gave me word of mouth feedback about good ones), Vee (Did a thorough job at reviewing and detailing each entry and sent me score before he went on vacation).

I guess, it shouldn’t matter if we wait for a couple of days more so that all the results are consolidated and put to poll together. Curious however to know if I have made the cut.

Thats fantastic – all you judges taking time out to do this job.

Even though the suspense is killing me, I would prefer to see all the best 6 posts in each category at one shot and polls shld happen at the same time.

    And prizes – WOW!!!

Get-together at Pune – will be wonderful – will be a great time to meet fellow bloggers, but I dont think, everybody can make it. Just check how many are willing to make it and if the numbers are good, then go ahead with it.

my personal openion is ‘respect the judges decision’ don’t go for any poll.

polling in this will make it unfair for those who lack PR skills.
there are many good posts who don’t even get 5 comments but that doesn’t mean that their write-up is not better than someone who gets 50+ comments in each post (95% comments ‘great post’, ‘lol’ etc.)

polling will only make the judges efforts look insignificant.

Hey, would never undermine judges’ effort at all.

The original idea for Avant Garde has always been this: Nominate (filter) + Judges scores to select 6 best posts in a category + Polls. So, polls will happen. Only thing I am asking here is, should I wait for all judges to send scores before I start polls. Or should I start with the ones for whom I have six best posts ready.

I must salute the dedication of the judges. As for voting, even staggered voting will do, as we will have to read a lot of entries.

This is awesome work that you are doing girl.

As for the party, it sounds great and you guys should go ahead and do it, and post pics too.

Wow that’s great… my hats off to all te judges and you for this mammoth effort… I think all the categories should go to poll once… that will be better…

and all the winners, runners-up and judges meeting is really nice.. but we have to see how many can make it…

Girl, I’m beginning to believe you feel restless if you don’t have a headache to nurse! Why don’t you do a poll on whether we’d like staggered polls or all at once? I vote for a poll of the poll 😐

Oh alright…staggered. (Not sure how this works, though – are the poll results visible as people vote, or only when you decide to show them? Perhaps you could start the polling for categories that are available, but declare the result all at once? Or is it more complicated than that?)

    • 13 Poonam March 2, 2010 at 6:43 pm

I thought of running a poll, but could not remember my PollDaddy acount password. :sheepish:

Poll results for Avant Garde will be visible only when I show them. People know tricks to rig online polls. (Last year someone actually wrote a post about that. ) So no pre-empting by revealing ongoing vote count.

    I can wait πŸ™‚

  11. 15 Smita March 2, 2010 at 4:39 pm

I feel as we have waited till now it makes sense waiting for a couple of days because when we go in phases the interest thins down!!

  12. 16 Apar March 2, 2010 at 9:58 pm

    Staggered polls sound good πŸ™‚

  13. 17 maya / uncommon March 3, 2010 at 8:18 am

start the polls with whatever available results,, i guess a lot of time has already passed since the shortlisting.. so u shudnt wait more

  14. 18 VIKAS |vikas-gupta.in March 3, 2010 at 10:06 am

I say polls only when all results are there.

Pune meet is a good idea. I will of course not come, needless to say. Let it happen just the same.

Polldaddy polls can be rigged. You clear the cookies (or use a different browser) and vote endlessly. You can ban voting by IP but it will give errors as IPs now are no more unique and are also dynamic.

    hey i cantwait… !

  16. 21 monikamanchanda March 4, 2010 at 10:53 am

i think go ahead and start the poll for which it is already decided

  17. 22 Madhu | INDImag.com March 5, 2010 at 4:53 am

    Poonam,
What may help is if you can at least share the finalists for the categories you know. Publish, not open up to vote. Voting can be in one go and not staggered, but sharing of who made the cut may give antsy participants something to chew on πŸ™‚ .

    Agree with hitchwriter. πŸ™‚

    Cheers!

  19. 25 Poonam March 6, 2010 at 11:06 pm

All at once then it is. Next week polls will start. πŸ™‚

    @Poonam

    Still waiting…..when will it start?

Ah Poonam, you teach us the meaning of the word “patience”!
