April 1: Annual Day Without Google

Today is not only Fool’s Day but also Annual day without Google.

Shefaly informed me about this experiment. So today I am using other search images for all my needs. Needless to say, my this compilation of search engines should be a help.

Not anti-Google

I thought I must make this clear that I am not anti-Google. I have removed Google as my homepage only for today just so that I can experiment. πŸ™‚

I am not anti-Google.

Happy Fools Day, though! πŸ™‚

Nice idea, but I’m already done with all my Googling for today.

But hey, Happy April Fool’s Day toh abhi bhi keh hi sakta hun! Kisi ne fool banaya ya nahi?

We should make everyday Anti-Google day. They are getting too powerful. πŸ™‚

  4. 4 Harsha April 1, 2008 at 3:42 pm

cool.. so trying to reduce Google’s monopoly.. but it will only reduce your productivity for searching info on alternative search engines.. You may not get info as early as thru google..

One more interesting fact..You may know this.. Google releases pranks every year..

    This year pranks http://www.google.com/virgle/index.html
    http://www.google.com.au/intl/en/gday/index.html

Last year prank was gmail paper which had made lot of news.. http://mail.google.com/mail/help/paper/more.html

    Good Piece of Information πŸ˜‰

    @ Ruhi

Well, you can start it πŸ˜‰ and create a badge too πŸ˜›

Cant live without google. also my job involves searching for info on the net a lot. Honestly, i dont find any search engine that comes close.

Think i should start testing all the search engines you mentioned in the previous post.

@Charles: It was easy. I used sputtr as my home page. There are several nice aggregator of results from other search engines including google. πŸ˜‰

@ish: Nahi, maine kisi ko fool nahi banaya (ek ko banate banate chod diya!) na kisi ne mujhe πŸ™‚

@Harsha: Google pranks are interesting. Nah, I don’t need to find my search engines through google, they find me now. πŸ˜›

@Dinsan: Why not try this experiment some other day, you could also write how your day went?

@Liju: I understand what you mean. For this reason, google has been my home page too. However, there are search engines like search mash and sputtr that find you aggregated results from all search engines including google and yahoo. How about that? πŸ˜‰

Liju, on second thoughts, I would really like you to test other search engines. I would wait to read your review.

Hey I found about this “Annual Day Without Google” while searching something on Google itself….. funny na πŸ˜€

  9. 9 Ottayan April 2, 2008 at 6:10 am

I also used sputtr. The problem is it has so many choices that you waste time searching for info.

Anyday, Google is search engine of choice.

Are we trying to bring down the powerful Empire here??? πŸ˜†
    How about an Anti-Wordpress day??

I love Google. πŸ˜› Sure, I have heard all the evil corporation stuff about them and I guess a day without them is in order…but I read this post too late or I would have given it a try coz i don’t like to be addicted.
But then I don’t believe in “days” for anything as you know, so I think I shall give it a try one of these days. Maybe…umm…let me look at my calender.

  12. 12 Liju Philip April 3, 2008 at 12:24 am

Oh sure. lemme try a few of them and will let you know.

  13. 13 Nova April 3, 2008 at 6:15 am

Interesting… so how was the experience?

  14. 14 Poonam Sharma April 3, 2008 at 6:33 am

@Suda: yeah, this story has google as tag. πŸ™‚

@Ottayan: You can customise sputtr to include only those sites where you want results. THat is one-time activity. It worked for me.

    No doubt google is simpler.

@Amit: Day after Anti-wordpress day would find our blogs missing. πŸ˜›

@Nita: I was about to suggest the same while reading your comment. That you can do this experiment on any day.

@Liju: Okay, will wait for your feedback.

@Nova: It was pretty easy with sputtr and searchmash.

  15. 15 Shefaly April 3, 2008 at 2:25 pm

Poonam: I think every day that regular bloggers do not write is effectively an anti-WP day, no? πŸ˜‰

In my case, it is also anti-web day, anti-sitting-at-my-table-working-day, pro-meetings-outside-day or plain I-am-off-work-and-all-else day!
