My Personal Resolutions For 2008

This is the first time I have ever taken a New Year resolution. I read somewhere that to commit oneself to own resolutions, it is important to make your resolutions public. This helps you to track your progress and dedication on completing your resolution. Here are my 6 simple resolutions:

1. Work on my physical fitness. TrekkingNot in terms of slimming, I am slim. I need to increase my physical stamina. Even small physical activity exhausts me. With my current lifestyle, where I sit through my work and during travel, I need to consciously take out time for some physical exercise. I will then go for trekking this year. πŸ™‚
How to do this
β€’ Have a walk everyday.
β€’ Join a gym or weekend dance classes for regular physical activity.

2. Save few bucks. I need to judiciously invest my money and generate wealth. I have some buying objectives such as I want to buy a house and buy a scooty for my sister, have a new laptop. I also want to have sufficient money to donate to my favorite charities and NGOs. Save money
How to do this
β€’ Meet a financial planner and chalk out the best investment plan.
β€’ Keep track of all personal expenses. Currently, I can not tell you how much I need to sustain myself for a month. Restrict my expenditure to minimum essential.
β€’ Learn and dabble in stocks, funds and IPOs.

3. Blog regularly. I write at four blogs, and am irregular on all four these days.
How to do this
β€’ Create a weekly plan for blogging. A designated day for each of the blogs including team blogs. Write more
β€’ Write more this year. Whenever I have an idea in mind, I should get to writing rather than stacking the thought away in notepad and WordPress drafts.
β€’ Burn regular summary feeds on subsequent blogs as well as my blogger Blog portfolio.

4. Add more pages to my blog. It has been long time that I wanted to add two pages on my blog: Links that will list useful links in various genres and We Need a Big Change, a page that lists all my articles in the series.
How to do thisBday Cake
β€’ Simply add pages by end of February. Why February? Because it is month of my birthday as well as my blog’s birthday.

5. Complete Saturday to-do tasks. These are the personal tasks that have to be done on Saturday when I have chutti and also a day various other offices are open. These tasks include like collect my graduation degree, withdraw PF from my last employer. You can imagine how lazy I am if I have not collected my graduation degree yet.
How to do this
β€’ Paste a Post-it on mirror in my room listing the tasks to be done. Post-it
β€’ Plan and create reminders each Friday to determine what task to finish on Saturday.
β€’ Scour all relevant offices for first two months on priority to get all my work done.
β€’ Delegate tasks to friends who can manage these with ease.

6. Take stock of my life. Clearly think my personal objectives in every sphere: finance, family, work, health, social responsibility.
How to do this
β€’ Introspect and create an action plan.
β€’ Implement the action plan.

What are your new year resolutions?

My resolution for this year is to have no resolutions πŸ˜€

  2. 2 Ruhi January 9, 2008 at 2:38 pm

Nice list Poonam πŸ™‚ You seem to have made a heavy duty plan to kick start this New Year! πŸ™‚

I don’t believe in resolutions though. If you want, you can read my take on this over here. .

P.S- Even I haven’t collected my undergrad degree cert. till now πŸ˜‰ That makes two of us.

  3. 3 Ruhi January 9, 2008 at 2:39 pm

Sorry, I’m not sure if the link came through:

Here’s the link for my “resolutions”: http://havetoremember.wordpress.com/2007/12/28/new-years-resolutions/

  4. 4 manofroma January 9, 2008 at 7:16 pm

Really a nice list. I have never been so organized, I’ll admit. Hope you suceed. Didn’t understand that stamina thing you have plus sorry I didn’t reply to one (maybe two) comments of yours on my blog, I was too busy. Have a happy new year Poonam!

  5. 5 lallopallo January 9, 2008 at 9:45 pm

Good luck with your resolutions Poonam….I liked the way you added “how to do this” stuff after each resolution. For physical fitness, the best thing is to sign up for a year long contract with the local gym.. ..this way you wont end up not using it regularly..
Meeting a financial planner seems like a good idea..

  6. 6 Poonam Sharma January 10, 2008 at 4:34 am

@Liju Philip: THat’s what I have tried doing all these years. IT certainly has not worked for me so far. Hope having resolutions works for me. πŸ™‚

@Ruhi: I read your resolutions when you posted. And I am more curious about personal resolutions that you did not post. πŸ™‚ Perhaps I may agree with a thing or two there. πŸ™‚

@manofroma: Nah, I am not that organized when it comes to my life and finances. I guess I try to be so. Oh, dont worry about responding comment. Hope you had a great year start..have a nice year ahead! πŸ™‚

About physical stamina, I meant I want to have some physical strength. Currently, dpnt have enough energy to trek. Want to do that.

@lallopallo: How to do this list was more important. It makes my resolutions workable. Met a financial planner, that part is done. Thinking of making a checklist of this post.
Not sure, knowing lazy me, that I will do justice to my year-long gym contract. Will waste my money. I guess dance should be more stimulating. I will learn something new. What say? What are your new year resolutions

  7. 7 Ruhi January 10, 2008 at 6:17 am

    Poonam,

Personal “milestones” are better left unsaid now. πŸ™‚ Maybe I’ll write a password protected post for the people in my blogroll and distribute the password.

  8. 8 Poonam Sharma January 10, 2008 at 6:27 am

Well, will wait for that post eagerly. πŸ˜›

  9. 9 ish January 10, 2008 at 7:42 am

Good luck with all the resolutions. You’ve got many of them lined up. Mine is simple enough, try to force myself into studying and get into some good college and probably get to Delhi as well. Your first resolution reminds me I need to jog as well. My physical stamina is the worst ever, 60 year old people leave me behind when I go for a walk sometimes.

  10. 10 Prashanth January 10, 2008 at 9:49 am

The one thing about blogging your resolutions is that you can’t deny making it at a later point 😦

  11. 11 Nova January 10, 2008 at 11:07 am

Good ones πŸ™‚ Good luck with those πŸ™‚

  12. 12 puresunshine January 10, 2008 at 12:06 pm

cool! i have my new year resolutions listed on my blog! the similarities- i DID join a gym to build STAMINA! feel better already! And I INVESTED more cash on JAN FIRST! AND the blogging plan list-wow! All th best with it!

  13. 13 ManofRoma January 10, 2008 at 9:22 pm

You have no force for trekking … mmm., well, of course that needs a lot of exercise, but do not worry: I think at your age you can do what u want of your body, only maybe build your ….stamina lol gradually.
My year start? Well, weird, totally, now living alone at almost 60 and all my flaws coming to surface, like: absolutely no cookig skill and no house skills and no practical mind altogether. Thinking of a post about my practical failures and abyssal lack of organization. I need all my moral strength to continue and not get too depressed lol. But I think it will be all right.

  14. 14 Poonam Sharma January 11, 2008 at 5:28 am

@ish: Dhyan se dekho to thode se hi resolutions hain. Physical stamina is important. At your age, you can get bucketfuls of it simply by a simple habit of daily walk and jog. Does give you at edge at studies too.

Chalo dono milkar yeh reslution rakh lete hain?

Delhi mein which college are you interested in: engineering or regular colleges? Engineering colleges require performance in entrance tests while regular colleges require high cut off. Pur tumhara yeh resolution achcha hai. Mogambo khush hua πŸ™‚

@Prashanth: Actually that is why I published it. Don’t want to deny it later. πŸ™‚ What are your resolutions?

    Btw, Welcome to Visceral Observations?

@Nova: Thanks πŸ™‚ hope poore kar lun. Tumhare kya resolutions hain, if any?

@puresunshine: Yes, I had read your bullet list and commented. Though, made a off-topic comment in the post!

Wow yaar, you acted fast, must say. πŸ™‚

@manofroma: Well, you can take a new year resolution to be organized and learn cooking basic recipes. Post it on your blog to make and public. Then you are committed to your resolutions and you can start working on it. What do you say? πŸ™‚

  15. 15 ish January 11, 2008 at 8:07 am

Currently I’m looking at engineering colleges. I know I’ll need to do something of a miracle in AIEEE if I want to get into a decent college in Delhi. Let’s see, only time shall tell.

  16. 16 Ashish January 11, 2008 at 8:21 am

Resolution of the year: Tame the bulge just so I can make a post titled Battle of the Bulge. πŸ˜›

  17. 17 shuz January 11, 2008 at 9:00 am

    hey, thts a nice list….
i too make lists every year, and end up forgetting abt it in a months time…… so this year iv made a list keeping in mind my past mistakes….

    all the best…..
    see ya:)

  18. 18 ManofRoma January 11, 2008 at 9:06 am

    >you can take a new year resolution to be organized and learn cooking basic recipes. Post it on your blog to make and public

It seems such a good idea. I will do it soon. Thank you Poonam!

  19. 19 Poonam Sharma January 11, 2008 at 12:11 pm

@ish: Never say die..I was uninterested in Maths..yet I cleared the only engineering exam I attempted…I wated to be psychiatrist..so wanted to clear medical entrance..of three, I cleared none.
If I can do bina thik se pade, I can bet you can easily after pade. πŸ™‚

@ashish: you are too young to have bulge yaar…don’t sit in cybercafe all day, go out play some hockey(aka chak de), cricket(aka monkey symonds), and score dhan dhana dhan goal… πŸ˜›

@shuz: Never keep the list in mind. That ensures you are not committed. Make your resolutions public or share with friends so that you are answerable for your resolutions. That is why I wrote them here. It is a evidence of what resolutions I made.

@manofroma: In that case, make very unambiguous resolutions. Down to how you will be organized and what you will learn to cook. πŸ™‚ Will wait to read your resolutions.

  20. 20 ish January 11, 2008 at 12:21 pm

    @Poonam: Yea, maybe. Will try.

@Ash: You can also play Kabaddi Pardes style. Does anybody remember that scene where they play Kabaddi to decide who Mahima Chadhury a.k.a. Ganga will marry?

  21. 21 Poonam Sharma January 11, 2008 at 4:31 pm

@ish: You have got two full months (Feb and March if we exclude jan). you can make it, I have full faith in you.

I remember that Pardes scene. That was so stupid. I remember it was Mahima’s first movie. She showed her teeth every time she laughed, cried or talked! Watch the movie again and surelu you ould not miss her teeth!

@Ash: You could also choose basket ball (phir Kuch Kuch Hota Hai) πŸ˜›

Which game do you choose? W gave ya so many options.

And mind it, it is not virtual?

  22. 22 ish January 11, 2008 at 5:56 pm

@Poonam: Good to know you’ve got full faith in me. It’d be nice if I start having some in myself too. I’m feeling rather low these days in the studies department. Old demons catching up you know. All that fun in class 11 and 12 is hurting now.

Ah yes, I remember Mahima showing her teeth in every scene. That was perhaps her only movie that really worked. I love the song “Yeh Dil Deewana” from that movie ’cause I’ve sung it in front of an audience too. Yeah, I was a singer in the good old days before my throat gave away on me and developed that manly baritone.

And I’m sure Ash is gonna choose hockey cause I think he adores the Punjabi girl from Chak De..totally his type. πŸ˜›

  23. 23 lallopallo January 11, 2008 at 9:28 pm

Ya, dancing seems like a good idea..depending upon which type of dancing you enroll in , it can help you burn lot of calories-..
My New Year resolutions? well..Iam trying to be successful in my daily and weekly resolutions first before I intend to be so ambitious as to make yearly resolutions!!!

  24. 24 dinsan January 12, 2008 at 11:30 am

Hey, make sure you keep us updated about the change .. how far you reached and all.. of course about blogs, we can see that live though

  25. 25 kpowerinfinity January 13, 2008 at 5:48 pm

    Sahi πŸ™‚ Way to go!
I must say you are very very organized if you actually make so many lists and keep them! That’s amazing. I am so lazy that I didn’t even think of a resolution… he he
But yeah, if you keep all those resolutions, you would be perfect by the year end, that would be a little sad, won’t be? Who wants to be perfect? πŸ˜€

  26. 26 Harsha January 14, 2008 at 4:22 am

Nice list ya.. i too have resolutions this year.. hope i will atleast half of those.. on an average i achieve 50% yearly

  27. 27 siropdevanille January 14, 2008 at 4:39 am

Seems like quite a plan! Happy New Year! and Best of luck on those resolutions!
Oh! Even I haven’t picked up my degree yet πŸ˜‰

  28. 28 Amyth January 14, 2008 at 9:47 am

AXcellent!! — Wonderful… For certain reasons I cannot make my resolution public. I am trying to quit an evil.. (You can probably guess what! — It is the “commonest” evil that people try and quit!

So I’m making it “public” here..! πŸ˜€

Let’s hope I stick to mine and you yours! πŸ™‚

    Happy new Year..

    Oh, the green smiley!

  29. 29 Poonam Sharma January 14, 2008 at 6:25 pm

@lallopallo: Last time I learnt jazz. This time too it will be jazz as salsa happens in a branch that is too far than my home. What are your daily resolutions?

@dinsan: Yeah, what about quaterly updates? πŸ™‚ So far, only taken care of the money part.

@kpowerinfinity: Nahi yaar, iske baad bhi bahut kuch karne ko hai. Pur yeh bhi kar lun to bahut hai. Lazy boy, you seem to be better off without a resolution. πŸ™‚

@Harsha: Best of luck with your resolutions! What are they? We can exchange notes at the end of quarter. What say?

@ siropdevanille: Hey welcome, finally you wrote a comment in my blog.

    Seems like quite a plan!
Sometimes best laid plan go haywire. But will try my best. Ek jaake DU se degree lateein hain. Hope you have a great year ahead!

@Amyth: Hey post this on your blog or you will never quit smoking because you never committed yourself to it πŸ˜‰

Happy new year to ya too!

Seems you are cornering me …. 😦
    I’lll do my best

  31. 31 lallopallo January 15, 2008 at 2:44 am

My daily resolution is to be in my office in time…that’s the only resolution I have..and sadly, Iam not very successful in that too..

  32. 32 praneshachar January 15, 2008 at 7:39 am

Even though I read your resolutions and how to do this. wonderful and perfectly jotted. wish all your resolutions get
its due time and all are achieved is my first wish. I suggest review these on a periodical basis and change based on the changed priorities. it will go long way in getting things implemented. planning for a house do it first buy a flat according to your needs and what EMI u can afford u can get incometax benefit too which can support ur EMI apart from the rent ur paying now or the rent ur getting from the new flat in case u r not able to move from ur present residence for various reasons.
such commitments will automatically control ur expenses as ur take home pay will be less and u learn to adjust do it right now.
all the best want to buy a flat in b’lore? let me know it is pretty costly now here
    pranesh

  34. 34 ManofRoma January 15, 2008 at 4:40 pm

I posted my New Year resolutions as you advised Poonam. All the best

  35. 35 ManofRoma January 15, 2008 at 5:38 pm

I didn’t paste that big chunk of my post in your blog as a comment. I think WordPress did it automatically.

  36. 36 ish January 16, 2008 at 5:10 am

@ManofRoma: Yea, that’s called a Trackback to inform her that you mentioned this post in one of your posts.

  37. 37 Poonam Sharma January 16, 2008 at 7:35 am

    @ish: I missed your comment! 😦

Old singer, you should use singing as stimulation for yourself. Firget past time wasted. Make most of what you have. You know I scored 90 in SST in class 10 and 95 in Biology in class 12, when I had never studied the book even once whole year. Both were last minute study of whole book, they serve us in good stead most of the times. You have my rock-solid faith buddy!

How do ya know Ashish would like to be Punjabans? What abt him paired with Chitranshi Rawat (Komal of Chak De)…it would be a combination of contrasts! But mind you, Chitranshi was one my fav gals in Chak De.

@lallopallo: yaar, such much office to jaldi pahunch jaay karo… How far is your office from home? Chalo, think of this as public domain and consider this as committed resultion. Lets see how long (or if) you do stick to commitments?

@manofroma: I am so glad to read your resolutions. You too now should update us quarterly how are you faring with your resolutions.

I certainly enjoyed reading your resolutions. πŸ™‚

  38. 38 ish January 16, 2008 at 10:02 am

@Poonam: Ah, its all good. I was just trying to attract your attention. πŸ˜›

Yeah, I’m also thinking I’ll get good enough marks in the boards, every body says that the school exams are meant to be tougher to prepare us. So Jai Ram Ji Ki. Oh wait, I just forgot I was a Sardar! πŸ˜›

I just thought Ash would like the Punjabi girl, no exact reasons for that. Chitrashi was good in Chak De, very good indeed. But she’ll be rather short for Ash..he’s tall and all that. Baaki woh ladki kisi ko bhi bhains ki poonch chata sakti hai so you don’t know. Best of luck Ash dude! πŸ˜›

Btw, now that we’re talking about the Chak De girls, I wonder why everybody finds Sagarika Ghatke(the Chandigarh one) so hot. She’s just average. I’d say the one who played Bindia Naik is the best actor out of the lot.

  39. 39 Poonam Sharma January 16, 2008 at 12:12 pm

Two girls who had most advantage after Chak De were Vidya (Captain) and Sagarika. I found them average compared to talent like Chitranshi (Komal), Tanya Arbol (the angry Punjabi girl) and of course Bindya Nayak. But Chaitranshi is my fav…wonder where is she now?

Haan, per-boards aksar boards se difficult hote hain…you will do fine. πŸ™‚

Let’s see whom Ash chooses. Itne options diye hamne use for his new year resolution πŸ˜›

  40. 40 ish January 16, 2008 at 1:33 pm

I believe Chitrashi is doing her college now, I think I heard that in an NDTV interview somewhere. Ek search maar lo Google pe, history geography aur civics sab pata chal jayega uska.

Waise I’m scared Ash is going to choice one of those scary gothic metal chicks from some hard rock band. Maine pehle hi kaha tha hard metal sun ne se dimaag pe asar ho jaata hai. πŸ˜›

  41. 41 Poonam Sharma January 16, 2008 at 4:53 pm

Yeah…..googled her…she is doing her graduation in meida studies…she is not even haryanvi! She is from Dehradun, got trained for a month to get that haryanvi accent. πŸ™‚

About Ash, when he writes about those metal chicks, I wonder what to comment…oh, has generation gap hit me so fast…I can hear metal..not all the time though but to rave over those chicks..somehow could not reconcile to that thought.. 😦

  42. 42 ManofRoma January 16, 2008 at 5:20 pm

    @Ish
I find these trackbacks not always pleasant and I find them a lot in my blog too

  43. 43 ish January 16, 2008 at 8:03 pm

@Poonam: Told you Google will tell you everything lol. Thank God my namesake won Voice of India nahi to mera naam Google karne pe pehla result mera hi aata tha. Now it comes somewhere on the 5th page.

Well, it’s not generation gap. At least you can hear metal, I can’t even do that. I almost detest it. But then, it’s just a matter of somebody’s choice. Can’t do much about it.

And I’m really worried yaar. Mere ko lag raha hai my Google account is going to be hacked pakka. Tension mein aakar Orkut bhi delete kar diya hai aur immediate logon ko mail bhi send kar diya hai. Pata nahi agar hack ho gaya to kya karoonga. I’m feeling like crying, kaash mummy ko bata sakta to kuch kehti aur tension door ho jaati.

  44. 44 ish January 16, 2008 at 8:04 pm

@ManofRoma: They’re not meant to be pleasant. You can delete them, it’s only a mechanism to tell you where your post is being used.

  45. 45 lallopallo January 17, 2008 at 3:26 am

Incidentally, I overslept today and could not even reach office..time par pahunchna to door ki baat hai..

  46. 46 Poonam Sharma January 17, 2008 at 3:50 am

@manofroma: Nothing to worry about trackback. As Ish says, it is just to inform you where your blog post has been referred to. Most people (including me) appreciate trackback. It could mean a higher rank in technorati.

@ish: tujhe kyun lag raha hai that your account will be hacked. Any particular reason? I am surprised to think you have such fear. Kya baat hai?

@lallopallo: Do you sleep late kya? Then only way to keep your resolution is to start going to bed early. And have a very insistent alarm in the morning. πŸ˜›

  47. 47 ManofRoma January 17, 2008 at 7:38 pm

    @Ish and Poonam
Mmmm… I always deleted tracknacks. This why my technorati rank is the lowest on earth lol

  48. 48 Elito January 18, 2008 at 5:18 pm

    I shate resolutions 1,2 and ….

I really really need to get my Grad degree and PF from last job tooooooo!!!! πŸ˜€ (ask my mom!)

Now that I am giving in my two cents here… it should have some value…
Buy gold in any form…being a lady will help be helpful to you…
“zero-downside gold”…. with my guarantee it will at-least be double in next 3 years…….
last leg of my research is left…would give the proper reasons then…. i need some sleep now….

  51. 51 anurag.s January 19, 2008 at 2:08 am

are you not in india …this time shows GMT ..timing..

  52. 52 anurag.s January 19, 2008 at 4:15 am

‘Nothing is costlier than something given free of charge’

  53. 53 Ashish January 20, 2008 at 9:47 am

My resolution is to fight the Battle of the Bulge… the bulge in the stomach area that is! πŸ˜€

Weird Colour combination of the theme btw…

  54. 54 Poonam Sharma January 21, 2008 at 4:15 am

@praneshachar: I am sorry, I don’t know how I missed your comment. 😦 Even now I had to scroll twice to locate your comment.

Don’t want to buy a house in Bangalore. I stay in Delhi, but do not think I have enough capital to buy house here. And I want to buy for property investment sake, don’t want to take a heavy loan either. Financial planner did the first thing was take possible future EMIs into account so that make a sound investment plan of the rest money.

@manofroma: I do not think technorati rank is decreased by deleting trackbacks. Trackbacks are just info that your post has been linked somewhere. I do not think deleting trackback deletes link to your post.

@Elito: Are you my alter ego? πŸ˜›

@anurag.s: yeah, that is good suggestion. Only problem is I don’t like wearing gold at all. 😦 kya karun? ok, wl spend some bits. I am in India, but I think wordpress clock uses GMT time.

What research are you doing? Lastly, ye quote aapka likha tha?

@Ashish: Read the comments above. Me and Ish gave you several suggestions to beat the bulge. Also, we thought of suitable chicks for you who could give ya some company while you are busy beating the bulge. πŸ˜›

I was experimenting with color theme. Forgot to make it default before logging off. 😦

  55. 55 anuragsaurabh January 21, 2008 at 8:42 am

the quote was regarding free advice….
β€˜Nothing is costlier than something given free of charge’

the research is about ‘gold’….and why to buy it…
who’s asking you to wear ?? buy it….and parcel it to me…or give me your address i will be there…

this instructional designer is pretty complex thing…i guess….
    e-learning…???

  56. 56 anuragsaurabh January 21, 2008 at 8:54 am

and a new investment product (REIT) will be launched, once it gets regulatory clearances, where you don’t have to invest in physical property…it will like a mutual fund…where a trust would invest on your behalf in real estate….much like a mutual fund…
that will much more easier to invest in real estates in India…looking at supply-demand mismatch, property price will never fall in India…

  57. 57 Ruhi January 21, 2008 at 10:01 am

Anurag- So, are there no REITs in India? Hmm…didn’t know that. It’s a very old concept in the US.

  58. 58 Poonam Sharma January 21, 2008 at 10:09 am

@Anurag: Arre, mujhe pata hai who quote kisliye tha, only was asking who wrote it?

Arre jo cheez mere kaam na aaye us mein invest karke kya karna 😦

Nahi, instructional designer is very nice, creative job. ITs a simple concept. Consider you have a company and you wanna train your employees on a new complicated software they will need to use for work. And you will have to teach this to new employees as well. How? You create a e-learning program. That’s where a instruction designer (ID) steps. ID works with a software expert and designs. It is multimedia team who brings a ID’s design alive.

@thegreymatter: kya gayab ho gaya, your pic is very much visible now.

  68. 68 Shreyas January 22, 2008 at 3:07 pm

Nice resolutions and definitely ones that you can achieve (unlike some resolutions some idiots come up with) And from my personal experiance, I can help you with a few of the resolutions you have.

I would adviuce you to take dance lessons and not go to the gym. Gymming is beneficial if you stick to a proper diet and also, if you are sure to stick to it for the long run. If you screw up the diet, it can have adverse affects. Dancing is great fun and will do the trick for you i..e keep you fit and increase your stamina.

Coming to savings, you can start off with buying mutual funds with stable companies in which you are guaranteed decent returns. In this way, you save tax and gain dividends given out by the company. Stocks is something you can allways try by investing little in the beginning to just get the hang of it and if you think, you want to get involved, you can gun for the big shares. But, do remember to invest for the longer term. Dont go for daily buying and selling as it will make you very money minded and will take away your piece of mind.

Also, I am interested in knowing about a few other things you have written here.. such as buying a house, etc.. maybe we can talk about that in private. All the best Poonam :))

  69. 69 Poonam Sharma January 23, 2008 at 8:09 am

    @Shreyas, Welcome! πŸ™‚

I agree with going to dance class. I have taken jazz classes before. So I think it is good idea. I was saying the same to one of earlier commentators.

yes, gonna buy tax-saving mutual fund. I have done the planning part. Now I am looking for product advisory for other things. We can discuss that in private. I don’t mind another advice. You sound like a good finance planner, eh?
I have not yet known what you do? 😦

  70. 70 Ashish January 23, 2008 at 11:59 am

Nah, I choose Wrestling and Boxing. πŸ˜€

  71. 71 Poonam Sharma January 24, 2008 at 8:35 am

@ah huh..guys with bulges can’t risk to wrestle and box. You might be plummeted. Taker safer options Ish n me suggested. We did so much of thinking for ya, after all. πŸ˜›

  72. 72 Shreyas January 24, 2008 at 6:09 pm

yup… we can allways talk it out on gtalk :))
and just so you know… my job is nothing related to finance apart from the fact that I get paid :p (i know.. sad joke =D)

  73. 73 Falcon January 25, 2008 at 2:12 pm

So how many of the resolution have you broken????

  74. 74 lallopallo January 26, 2008 at 3:42 am

Your resolutions have already gone for a toss dear!! Just read your resolution no 3 and you”ll know what I mean..:)
Sorry for being nasty yaar..but I want you to accept the real world..lol

  75. 75 Poonam Sharma January 26, 2008 at 7:39 pm

@Shreyas: Chalega..all PJs chalega..till you respond. πŸ™‚ Communication is essence of blogging.

@Falcon: 3 and 4 are definitely broken. But promised a quarterly update. Hope to have a better report card then! πŸ™‚

@Lallopallo: Sahi keh rahe ho….but I am working on other things…taking care of finance part with priority these days. Saving myself from agents and using actual finance planning. πŸ™‚

Picture abhi baaki hai, dost! πŸ˜›

  76. 76 FALCON January 27, 2008 at 2:39 pm

why make resolution when you know you are goin to break them?
I made a few but that depends on circumustances( along with if Clause)….And hell odds are with me…that way I am guilt free…So enjoy…chill and smoke!!!

  77. 77 FALCON January 27, 2008 at 2:40 pm

It simply didn’t happen the way I expected it to!!!

  78. 78 Poonam Sharma January 27, 2008 at 4:07 pm

@Falcon: Reason I made it public is to bind me to my resolution. I am optimist, I will make it after all by the end of this quarter. πŸ™‚

I am working on other things. Certainly, have to chalk out a way for the blogging part.

What were your resolutions that did not work out?

  79. 79 lallopallo January 28, 2008 at 1:27 am

    Ya, sure..picture abhi baaki hai..

  80. 80 Vaishno January 28, 2008 at 8:36 am

hey, tell me something! can you plan something that u like doing? for e.g., you’ll blog when u feel like blogging! u can’t compel urself to blog just bcoz u thought u shud blog 3-4 times a week!

rest of it, i totally agree with u.. in fact, i had v similar resolutions like urs except for the fact, u want to build ur stamina while i really wanna loose sum 12 odd kgs!!!

  81. 81 Poonam Sharma January 28, 2008 at 11:27 am

@Vaishno: Thing is I blog on 4 blogs and though will blog when I liked. It seems there is no comfortable time to do so. So I have to have a schedule and compel to put my thoughts on paper. So far, all my thoughts get lost due to lack of opportunity to write. I need to create that opportunity perhaps by discipline.

A time came when I had not updated any of my blogs for more than three weeks. 😦 What do you do to keep your blog updated?

Join a dance class..once you are hooked by the art. I am sure you will lose your kilos.

  82. 82 Falcon January 28, 2008 at 2:31 pm

I did not say they did not work out…
I believein biting rather than barking…( no offense meant). just my style ( u should have know by know ..Angry = Falcon)

    Ok I reveal a few of them…. 1.
I am going to Burn my personal diary soon. Ok may be not me, but it is going to be burnt for the record 4th time. Kudos to me… Soon but not know… The if clause….. is almost over…

    2. Plan to relocate to an entirely new city subject to the if clause… preferably geographically alienated… Perhaps Shilong

    3. Find a mongolian race girl..and open a “chinese tapri” with her in Mumbai…Lol ..Any takers for some Hakkaa noodles. lol

Cut my ciggi…nah Jus leave it…..

    for now lol

  83. 83 Poonam Sharma January 29, 2008 at 4:24 am

@Falcon: As I see it none of your listed resolutions make sense other that the one you listed in the end cut my ciggi and you don’t even want to commit yourself to it. Post it on your blog and make it public. Let’s see how you go then! πŸ˜‰

  84. 84 Falcon January 30, 2008 at 9:19 am

    @ Poonam
You might as well wish for the moon. πŸ˜‰

  85. 85 Poonam Sharma January 31, 2008 at 10:30 am

@Falcon: That’s because I believe there is life on moon. And moon is attainable in this century. πŸ˜›

    Uh, poor one.

  86. 86 Crimson Feet January 31, 2008 at 11:58 am

@ falcon & Poonam … i am sorry for the intrusion, but i think those are wonderfully sensible resolutions, and i hope, falcon, you are able to live up to them…. and if poonam is interested, i’d love to hear why she thinks they dont make sense…

…sometimes, just making the resolution itself is fun ;)… i consider it as being as necessary and useful as dreaming or building castles in the air… as Thoreau put it…

“If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.”

  87. 87 Poonam Sharma January 31, 2008 at 12:21 pm

    @crimson feet:

…sometimes, just making the resolution itself is fun πŸ˜‰ True!

But last one, one that was not listed (quit cig..), I figured was hard to attain. So played that up πŸ˜‰ after all they don’t even spare SRK. πŸ˜›

  88. 88 Falcon January 31, 2008 at 6:24 pm

Mam I would like to inform you that I am down to less than 2 a day… though it wouldn’t last long.

    @ Crimson feet
thx men i seriously need some help from these nose poking journalist…LOl

  89. 89 Poonam Sharma February 3, 2008 at 9:19 am

    huh…nose poking journalist…me! I don’t even work as a journalist.

to inform you that I am down to less than 2 a day… though it wouldn’t last long.

why would it last for long…make it your personal challenge. I really want to see how do you hold on to challenges. πŸ˜‰

  90. 90 Falcon February 3, 2008 at 1:57 pm

    @ poonam
Good try!!! but it’s not gonna work..
And someone seems angry….oh I san see the red face…lol
Why should I Quit? I see no reasons for it…
And I know I can quit anytime I want. I have done it earlier and can do it now. Like for 6 months on a challenge!!! Again for about 2 months becoz I promised myself… πŸ˜‰

  91. 91 Poonam Sharma February 4, 2008 at 4:47 am

    @falcon: Why should I be angry. πŸ™‚

And I know I can quit anytime I want. Do I need to comment on it. I guess you know that better than me. πŸ˜‰

So you are quitting for 8 months? But why quit, when you to get back to same habit. πŸ™‚

  92. 92 Falcon February 13, 2008 at 3:03 pm

    @Poonam
    >>But why quit, when you to get back to same habit?

For the same reason you need to take a bath to clean urself even though u know u r goin to get dirty..
BTW why the hell r u so bent to make me quit ciggi…

Because you should…Moreover, personally, I do not like to know something that a habit is not being changed just because of lack of determination. I guess you should quit, no pointing retaining cough for your later life. Actually this stems from a story someone told me this morning: A girl was told by her roommate that smoking will make her voice husky. She says now, “All that has remained with me is cough.”

  93. 93 falcon February 14, 2008 at 1:48 pm

    If I do everything right I’ll become a saint…
    >>I guess you should quit, no pointing retaining cough for your later life.
What gives you an idea that I am intrested in spendin “Later Life”.. And what is the Guarantee that I have a “Later Life”…
    You sound like a granny….

What gives you an idea that I am interested in spendin “Later Life” Well, its called optimism. πŸ™‚

You sound like a granny…. and you sound like obstinate, pampered grandchild πŸ˜‰

  94. 94 Falcon February 15, 2008 at 9:52 am

    Thx for the compliment!!!

And FYI I am a pessimist!!! You know the best part about it! You are better prepared for the worst and anything that happens …. happens above your expectation.

    Still don’t get it.

If I see the glass is half empty.. that means there is space for 6o ml of daru and Ice and cold drink … and yo
    you are in heaven !!!

And FYI I am a pessimist!!! Well, that seems like a logical conclusion πŸ˜›

that means there is space for 6o ml of daru and Ice and cold drink … and you are in heaven !!! Spoken like single-track mind of a optimistic guy who loves his drink… πŸ˜‰ Operating word here is “optimism” , see you contradict yourself. πŸ˜‰

  95. 95 Falcon February 15, 2008 at 5:33 pm

Not really, However you are entitled to have your opinion….

To tell you the truth, I feel its a waste of container and its usefulness..
I mean if the glass is supposed to be half empty then why use such a big glass?

you can do with a smaller one…
The same goes on with “later life”…

Call me a realist pessimist or a philosphical pessimist who derives strength from pessimism……..

philosphical pessimist who derives strength from pessimism Well if pessimism gives you strength, so be it.

For me using a bigger glass is indication that I can get more. πŸ˜‰ Usually I do get more that assigned.

  96. 96 Falcon February 18, 2008 at 4:39 pm

May be !!! GuessU r an eternal optimist…
However taking, more than ur share is not exactly “JUST”!!!

  97. 97 Man of Roma February 19, 2008 at 9:41 pm

Hey, seems a lot of interaction going on here. I had missed that ….

  98. 98 Poonam February 20, 2008 at 3:49 am

@Falcon: Yes, I discovered in school that I was an eternal optimist. Yet for my survival, I follow few rules I never count my chickens till they hatch. Though I may hope for them. And no one other than me should have right to decide what my share is πŸ™‚

@Manofroma: yes, some interaction still going on…this is what 99th comment.

  99. 99 Falcon February 20, 2008 at 2:37 pm

    @ Poonam
    >> And no one other than me should have right to decide what my share is

Very true.. but Who said this words..
    >>Usually I do get more that assigned.

And by your logic: “And no one other than me should have right to decide what my oersonal resolution should be ”
“And no one other than me should have right to decide whether to quit somoking or not”

    >>Why should I be angry.

Sorry mam. ur not angry but u r fuming and snarlin…
    πŸ˜‰ I meant no offense…

Nah! I am not at all angry, just amused. Hence, pulling your leg all the while…

As for “Usually I do get more that assigned. ” life is mean, someone or the other always wants to decide wht you are assigned. At home, work..I always grab more. I do my best for that. πŸ™‚

Of course quitting should be your decision, I was only trying to help you make that decision because I figured it was going to be hard one. πŸ˜›

  100. 100 Falcon February 22, 2008 at 1:59 pm

    @ poonam
I choose leser of the two evils…
Quittin smokin would mean I”ll have to find something… I am not sure If I am ready to do that or for that matter If I’ll be ever able to do that.
