Have you ever wondered why it never rained during rainy season? Have you ever wondered, why in some cities, number of seasons have reduced to just summer and winter? Where is the spring season? Well, welcome to global warming phenomenon. At least that’s what specialists say.
For starters, global warming is the phenomenon of increase in average temperature of earth’s atmosphere and oceans. It is caused by emission of greenhouse gases like carbon-di-oxide (CO2). Where do these emissions come from? I can see you had the answers ready in your mind! Pollution, traffic emissions, factories, residential wastage. Global warming can cause anything from drastic weather changes, tsunamis, extinct species to disappearance of glaciers and oceans. We need alternate fuel options, but first we need to conserve what we have.
Do not scoff yet, you can watch this photo feature from TIME to see what global warming is doing all around.
I realize that global warming or no warming, energy conservation is something that only benefits India. We need it desperately, our greener pastures are disappearing fast. We are already running short on basic resources such as electricity and water. Damn, there are millions who do not have easy access to basic amenities yet.
There is so much one can do at individual level to fight global warming. Changing all our bulbs to compact fluorescent light (cfl) bulbs alone can help you save 40% of your electric bill. People in rural India, rely a lot on these bulbs, wish they could read blogs. 😦
What I feel sad about is the concept of energy conservation has not yet caught up in our country. There is no a single voice of repute around. Former US Vice President Al Gore is an staunch advocate for the cause of global warming. He made a documentary called “An Inconvenient Truth” on this subject. In our country, we should have such energy conservation campaigns in all walks of life. It should start at school, and at home with parents bringing awareness to their children. Watch a clipping of this documentary:

P.S: Guys, this was just a build up. The next part of this post is soon to come up. It’s going to be very interesting, I promise. 🙂
